The UK Games Charts: Wolverine Not that Fit
Wolverine might be the best there is at what he does, but what he does clearly isn't move Nintendo titles from the top of the UK Games Charts.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine (reviewed here) is brand new and launching off a big Hollywood movie. Wii Fit is over a year old. Despite those two facts, the Nintendo game remains at Number 1, while Activision Blizzard has to settle for Number 2. It's by a fairly impressive margin, too, with Wii Fit having outsold Wolverine by 1.7 to 1.

Chomping at the heels of Wolvie is EA's FIFA 09, up one place to Number 3.

There are yet more shows of Nintendo strength a little further down the Charts, with Wii Play and Mario Kart Wii both seeing sales boosts alongside what Gfk Chart-Track calls “an increase in sales of the Wii console.” Wii Play sees an increase of 47%, driving it from Number 8 to Number 4, while Mario Kart Wii goes up one place (with a 15% sales jump) to Number 6.

There's a bit of a slide down the Top 10 for a couple for new releases from Atari and EA. The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena is down from Number 2 to Number 7 while The Godfather II (reviewed here) drops from Number 3 to Number 8.

Nintendo isn't faring quite so well with its DS adventure game as it is with Wii software. Professor Layton slips three places, despite static sales, to Number 9.

Rounding out the Top 10 is Activision Blizzard's Call of Duty: World at War, which is still fighting its corner down at Number 10 after 25 weeks of release – all of them spent in the Top 10.

There are a couple of big leaps further down the Charts thanks to retailer promotion. Capcom's Street Fighter IV jumps 97% and 14 places from Number 25 to Number 11. Microsoft's Halo Wars steps into the opening, re-entering the Top 40 at Number 25.

The only new entry other than Wolverine this week fails to make much of a dent. Sony's Singstar: Pop Edition lodges itself at Number 32.

Next week you might see and appearance from GameCock's Velvet Assassin.
