New GameCube Starfox Screens!

First look at Starfox GameCube

We have gleaned some of the latest shots of Starfox for the Nintendo GameCube and as you might expect for a second party GameCube title, it looks gorgeous!

There is a mixture of disappointment and Joy for Nintendo fans though. Do you remember the abandoned N64 title Dinosaur Planet? The new Starfox game is based on the work Rare put into the N64 game and will be called Starfox Adventures: Dinosaur Planet and will essentially be yet another Rare 3D adventure.

Now don’t get us wrong, we have great respect for the work the Rare team produced for the N64. It would be heresy not to. But this is a bit of a disappointment to fans of the Starfox series. It essentially means that any traditional Starfox arcade 3D shooting elements will be massively played down in favour of travelling a Starfox themed world in a Rare style.

Another concern is that games that start life as one thing and end up as another, often under-perform. Mario Bros 2 started life as Dream Factory and is widely considered the worst in the series. When Rare changed James Bond to Joanna Dark the game lost a certain something.

We have learnt that Starfox will use a modified version of Rare’s 3D engine first deployed in Banjo Kazooie and most of the maps that had been finalised for Dinosaur Planet on the N64. Doesn’t exactly fill you with confidence does it?
