Rod Fergusson, executive producer on
Gears of War 2, thinks that the Xbox 360's hardware still has more to give.
“I think there’s still more it can do”, the developer said in an interview.
“Hardware, in some regards, always has limits, but it’s the software that takes advantage of that.
“...I think you’ll see people continue to push that envelope about how they use the memory, and how they use the hard drive, and all those sort of things", he went on.
Of course, given that Fergusson is the producer of an Xbox 360-exclusive game that almost certainly has a sequel coming at some point, he probably would say that.
Once upon a time (before
Gears 2 was out), however, Fergusson approached the subject from a different angle. "So I think we're certainly approaching the upper end of it", he said of the 360's capabilities, before noting that "all the games just keep improving, and keep pushing that bar."
Now, however, his line is firmly, “I think there’s still lots of room to grow.”
