Revealed: Star Ocean Dev's SEGA Collaboration
The next title from Star Ocean developer Tri-Ace has been revealed a little early thanks to Japanese gaming bible, Famitsu. It might surprise some JRPG fans - it's being published by SEGA, rather than the studio's usual partner, Square Enix.

The title, dubbed End of Eternity, has a countdown teaser site that is set to bare its secrets tomorrow, but advance copies of the Japanese mag have beat it to the punch.

The game's a gun-battle RPG set in a machine city/tower called Burzel (or Bazel, depending on whose translation you go with). It's millions of inhabitants subscribe to a monotheistic religion which looks like it might be facing a challenge - a piece of dialogue from one of the characters, Zephyr(or Zaphyr), goes thusly: "The fact that I live is proof there is no God".

Zephyr, a chap aged 17, is the star of the show and lives with Vashyron, (another chap) who's 26. They both work for a private military firm. Then we have Subject #20 (or 'Experiment 20'), a 19 year old female who was apparently manufactured for the sole purpose of an experiment that necessitates her dying at 20. Unhappy at this, she's fled the lab which spawned her.

If End of Eternity is related to Isaac Asimov's novel of the same name, it doesn't appear that anything has been said about it.

Gameplay is split between fields that span Burzel's floors and dungeons. In the fields, you'll view the action from overhead in a hexagonal grid. In the dungeons, however, the action is third-person. The battle system is reportedly 'semi-realtime' and gives you control of one out of your three party members. Time progresses as you engage in gun fights, but freezes once your turn is over, enabling you to plan your next attack.

The game is reportedly 65% complete and will be released on the PS3 and Xbox 360.
