More evidence has emerged to support the rife rumoury suggesting that Double Fine's heavy metal adventure title,
Brütal Legend, is coming to the Wii.
Variety's The Cut Scene
reports that "several good sources" have confirmed for it that EA has a Wii version in the pipeline. This game is supposedly not, however, being developed by Double Fine, creator of the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions.
It also sounds very unlikely that we'll see the Wii game this autumn alongside the other two versions. Development has only started quite recently, apparently. It may be that we see a strategy similar to that employed with
Dead Space - a Wii release with different content (rather than just being an inevitably poor attempt at a port) coming a year or so after the 'next-gen' game.
Following a GoNintendo story that stated a Wii version of
Brütal Legend was on the way (since
removed) Tim Schafer, president of Double Fine, was
asked by 1up if there was any truth to the rumour. After consulting his PR minder Schafer (in absolutely classic non-denial denial mode) uttered, "We are making an Xbox 360 and a PS3 version of
Brütal Legend."
A Wii version of
Brütal Legend would, of course make absolute sense from a publisher that has made a point of supporting Nintendo's console - by far the best selling home console of this generation.
The PS3/360 game was initially set to be published by Sierra. It was part of the title
cull that followed the Vivendi/Activision merger and was subsequently
picked up by EA.
