As we suggested might happen following the declaration of the US launch of Nintendo's DSi handheld, the company has confirmed launch details for Europe. It will hit on April 3rd, ahead of the USA.
It will be priced at £149.99. It will come in white or black. According to Nintendo's general manager, David Yarnton, speaking to MCV, the company is "not going to stop stocking DS Lite, we’ll have that in the market too."
The price-point, however, comes not from the official Nintendo press information - which can be found here. This studiously avoids mention of price, stating, "Nintendo will launch its new handheld console, the Nintendo DSi, in Europe on 3 April 2009. You know, when companies come along and charge what ever they like for their product it's little wonder we're in recession. £149.99 in the U.K, $169.99 in the U.S. Granted this is a luxury product, but the principal remains. This is a case of ''We can charge what we want, and THEY WILL pay it.'' At this price point, I hope nobody buys it.
