Capcom Back The Dreamcast Fuelling DC Capcom vs SNK 2 Rumours
Capcom has made public its release scedule for the coming months including details of its intentions to publish several new Dreamcast titles. The company has said it will release thirteen games for the PlayStation 2 and a massive 11 games for the Dreamcast, far more than anyone else except Sega.

This news has fuelled rumours that the company will confirm the development of the hotly anticipated fighter Capcom Vs SNK 2 which is nearing completion for Sega’s Naomi arcade system. The hardware of the Naomi machine is almost identical to that of the Dreamcast making a port relatively easy. At present, the game is confirmed for PlayStation 2 only.

The process of porting the game to the PlayStation 2 is comparatively lengthy and expensive. Capcom will have to first convert the code to run on a development kit made by Namco’s arcade division. The hardware, known as System 264, was developed by Capcom and Sony, without Sega’s assistance, to facilitate conversions from Naomi. The code will then be reprocessed and ported across to a PlayStation 2 development kit by Capcom. There is little synergy between the Naomi system and the PlayStation 2 meaning that any straight conversion would practically entail a complete rebuild from the ground up.

To make a Dreamcast version is almost as easy as plugging a Capcom Vs SNK 2 arcade board into a Dreamcast development kit and pressing a button. The two pieces of hardware were specifically designed this way.

In other news Capcom stated that it aims to sell 1.5 million units of The Devil May Cry in the first month after it is released.
