A Lionhead employee has stated that the company is involved in a PC port of
Fable 2.
In a forum posting 'Woody' stated, "We're not working on a PC version of
Fable II... If this changes we'll make sure you know about it on our website(s)."
The first
Fable, you may remember, was released for PC with additional content as
Fable: The Lost Chapters. Many were expecting to also see a PC release for a sequel. The possibility is left open, of course, that another developer is working on just such a port.
Lionhead has been elusive on a the subject in the past. The often verbally diarrheal Peter Molyneux said waaaayyy back in 2007, "I’d rather get one single format absolutely nailed, and then think about other formats."
Back in October he said that there was no announcement "either positive or negative" on a PC version "just yet".
If there aren't any plans for another dev to port
Fable II to the PC, it doesn't bode well for Microsoft's Games for Windows. It has already been stated that there
won't be a port of Gears 2. Add
Fable 2 to the list of AAA first-party Xbox titles not being ported to PC and it starts to look like Microsoft has a decided lack of commitment to the platform.
Throw in Microsoft's planned cutbacks across the board and the
departure of Chris Early, head of Games for Windows Live, and it starts to look like Microsoft's could be taking a long, hard and critical look at its presence in PC gaming.
