No Co-op Planned for Killzone 2

Guerrilla Games has stated that it does not have plans for co-op in Killzone 2. Harsh, but true.

Speaking in an interview, game director Mathijs de Jonge told PSU, "Currently there are no plans for co-op in Killzone 2, technically it would be quite difficult to implement it for the story mode as for example the mission sections are loaded in seamlessly – no loading screens , and that would cause issues with teleporting players. Even without co-op it’s still a big game and gamers will have plenty to sink their teeth into."

"Currently there are no plans..." does this leave a glimmer of hope for the future? Could this change into "Now, there are plans"? Nah.

The news will come as a bit of a blow to PS3-owning shooter fans. Co-op has become something of an industry standard for big-name shooters and, while Guerrilla had not stated its inclusion as fact, there was widespread speculation that it would be a feature.

On a more positive note, de Jonge indicated that Guerrilla is pushing the PS3's Cell Synergistic Processing Unit pretty hard. "In some (rare) cases when there isn’t much action going on the game doesn’t require all the SPUs to run at full speed, but there are plenty of combat heavy situations where we max out on all SPUs and run at 100%", he said.

We think he might be referring to the SPEs (Synergistic Processor Elements) as there are multiples of these in a single Cell. But what do we know compared to the head of Guerrilla?

It was also indicated (unshockingly) that something is in the pipeline for Killzone 2 and Home. "Home is something we are looking into but we have nothing to report on this just yet", said de Jonge.

Back to another negative note - Jeff Rubenstein (social media manager for SCEA) stated on the PlayStation Blog, "There is no collector’s edition slated for Killzone 2. Guerrilla Games has put all of their effort into creating this masterpiece of a game, so we didn’t actively pursue a CE."

Frankly, SPOnG doesn't quite follow the logic there. Is a masterpiece of a game in any way harmed by coming with an art book and limited edition Killzone 2 ear dropper? Would the dev team's time be taken up by marketing bods putting together a collectors' edition? SPOnG suspects the answer to both the above is 'no'.
