Mixed messages? From Sony? Surely not. Apparently the company is to take "sacred cow-slaying" measures in order to restructure its various business divisions. At least this is what unnamed company sources have told The Times.

Named company sources, however, have told Bloomberg that it's already announced all the restructuring its going to.

Atsuo Omagari, a spokesman at Sony in Japan, told the agency, "We are not planning to announce further restructuring at this time."

Back to The Times' sources, however, and we are lead to believe that, "The expected restructuring - considered by many analysts to be occurring far too late - is likely to be announced early next month, with the lion's share of the changes imposed on Sony's domestic Japanese operations in the form of factory closures and the abolition of several major divisions."

Kotaku's already run this post and they spun it like it was the PlayStation they were getting rid of. Thing is, what kind of 'major division' are we talking about? SCE are going nowhere, that's a fact and everyone, no matter how much of a devout fanboy for Microsoft or Nintendo, knows it. Bravia TV's are suffering but its hard to imagine Sony pulling out of the TV market. My 2 Cents? If this is true, then they'll yank out of video cameras. But I could be wrong.

I'm a cameraman and there is no way that sony is pulling out of the camera market. perhaps on a consumer level, but not on a pro level, they kind of own a lot of the market at the moment. from sony Z1's, right up to their HDCAM range.

Yeh, they just spent an assload here in the States marketing their HDTVs with the rationale that "most major sports are shot with Sony HD cameras...so shouldn't you watch them on a Sony HD TV?" So I think their camera division is OK.

How about the Walkman?

It's about as much a sacred cow as Sony could have, and it completely lost to market to iPod and mobile phones (of which it owns a share, obv).
