All of the major news agencies are reporting big job cuts and some factory closures at Sony. Reuters states, "it will cut about 4 percent of its workforce, curb investment and pull out of businesses to save $1.1 billion a year".

The Associated Press makes it clear that, "Sony Corp, which has 185,000 employees worldwide, said Tuesday it will complete the layoffs by the end of March 2010."

The BBC reports that the cuts will occur in April 2010 and concern Sony's electronics unit with "5% of the division" being made jobless and the company "shutting 10% of its manufacturing sites".

AP confirms the divisional targeting of the redundancies, stating that, "The layoffs will come from Sony's electronics business, which has 160,000 workers. The company also has movie, video game and financial businesses."

So, no mention of any further cuts to the staff of PlayStation division, Sony Computer Entertainment its regional subsidiaries.

If Microsoft were doing this no doubt you would be very quick in there to say something like 'Looks like Xbox 360 division will see job cuts...'

In the same way I am very sure Sony Playstation which is part of Sony Corp will see job cuts.

I don't see why they just don't shut down their MP3 division as there is no way they can compete with Apple.

Yes, you're right, that's exactly what we'd do. You got me banged to rights. In fact, even if it wasn't true I'd run it. In fact, I think I'm going to run a story about that anyway right now.

"No Job Cuts at Microsoft: Poor Judgement!

Microsoft today did not announce job cuts at its Entertainment and Devices Division. This signals poor financial judgement in today's Credit Crunched times and is therefore a key indicator that the Xbox 360 and Zune are to be immediately discontinued.

It is also totally not announced that RRODs have crossed the infection barrier and can now cause Koreans, gay people, horses and people who have visited Australia to explode.

How's that for you?

Well what a shame because if that was true there would be nothing else to write about thusly meaning a loss of jobs for those in the industry that just sit at their desk writing stories about the gaming industry whilst getting freebies in the post...

Man, you don't seriously think a blip like there not being an industry would stop me from forcing SPOnG writers to create negative stories about the Xbox 360 do you? You under estimate my capacity for sheer evil, one-eyed bias.

Next story:

'Xbox 360 Sells too Well!
In a shocking revelation SPOnG can exclusively reveal (shockingly) that the success of Microsoft in selling loads of Xbox 360s in recent months is down to black magic, human sacrifice and deal made with the Alien Robot Overlords (all power to them!).

We must also mention RROD as well - it's part of SPOnG's mission statement since Tim joined and started us all hating on Microsoft and that.

Yep, more bad news for Sony. Sucks to be them. Do I now sense a possible overdue PS3 pricedrop? Surely not.

I wonder if Nintendo and MS are having the same problems.

It's when I get into the Guinness and shorts that it all goes horribly wrong though. Then it's all bad Irish accents, rebel songs and harking back to the days when the Amiga walked the planet in its pomp and glory devouring Atari STs.

Wait, what? Have you ever drank proper belgian beer instead of the pints? I'm talking about our exclusive abbey beers offcourse, so powerfull, we belgians could conquer the world just by giving these to all your armies. I mean, for experienced belgian beer drinkers, Guinness is the equivalent of water that happens to look black.

I am not getting into a beer fanboy war. No way. Especially when Belgian beer is - in my limited experience - very good indeed.

To my shame, I've never actually been to Belgium. I'll have to do something about that next year.

Cheers
