All of the major news agencies are reporting big job cuts and some factory closures at Sony. Reuters
states, "it will cut about 4 percent of its workforce, curb investment and pull out of businesses to save $1.1 billion a year".
The Associated Press
makes it clear that, "Sony Corp, which has 185,000 employees worldwide, said Tuesday it will complete the layoffs by the end of March 2010."
The
BBC reports that the cuts will occur in April 2010 and concern Sony's electronics unit with "5% of the division" being made jobless and the company "shutting 10% of its manufacturing sites".
AP confirms the divisional targeting of the redundancies, stating that, "The layoffs will come from Sony's electronics business, which has 160,000 workers. The company also has movie, video game and financial businesses."
So, no mention of any further cuts to the staff of PlayStation division, Sony Computer Entertainment its regional subsidiaries.
