PlayStation 2 Gets Most Game Time - Wii Gets Used
The PlayStation 2 is still kicking and screaming according to Nielsen Games' marketing manager Brad Raczka, who has explained, "The PS2 still has the highest overall usage for any individual console Nielsen measures due to its very large installed base."

With Xmas tide approaching, however, and Xbox 360s being given away with cereal packets (that is an exaggeration for effect); with the Wii already credit-crunchingly inexpensive, 2009 could well see the decline and fall of PS2. On the other hand if you already have a PS2, why spend more money?

This truth emerged following a recent piece of Nielsen (it does the US TV ratings in case you weren't aware) research that also put paid to the ongoing - and apparently misplaced - criticism that Nintendo's Wii once bought is rarely used. Apparently it gets used five or six times a month for 50 minutes a time. Now, this is not every day for 22 hours per day as 'the hardcore' obviously use their machines. Nor is it once a day for an hour a day, as you would expect of people who assiduously work out with Wii Fit. That said, it's more than once a year near Xmas.

A lot of people at work have bought a Wii but, out the six machines only one is getting regular use (maybe because it's fairly new) and one is "not being used as often as I hoped". Another "We'll maybe start using it again now the evenings are getting dark" (though not dark enough yet it seems). Two will probably get dusted off when the next Mario, Zelda or Metroid comes out, one them had been addicted to MarioKart but got fed up with the cheats (3 laps in 0.3secs).

Out of about 20 people, I'm the only one owns a 360 or a PS3 but my consoles will get more use than all six Wiis combined.
I'm sometimes asked about which console to go for so I tell them that if they want lots of gaming and online gaming, get an Xbox 360.

If you want some gaming but also Blu-ray and up scaled DVD for your HD TV, get a PS3.

If you want fun for all family, then get a Wii but you'll have to buy an extra set of controllers which means it ain't so cheap, if it's two weeks before X-mas, you'll struggle to find one, and you'll get lumbered with a game package if you do, also don't expect the family fun to last till next X-mas or even February.

So I don't know what Wii games are getting used six times a month but if Spong could tell us, then maybe some of those unused Wiis could get dusted off.

Let me first rebuke this pos entirely by saying "not representative". And this counts for all "i know X people and blablabla" stories.

Then, you have to tell those persons about Zack & Wiki, No more Heroes, Trauma center (both of them), Brawl, the tank game in WiiPlay (probably one of the best games this gen), PES 2008, Battalion Wars 2 (20 euro's in the Makro if anyone looks for good deals), Super Mario Strikers and many more for the unique wii-experciences.

And if anyone starts complaining that Zack & Wiki seems too cartoony without any of them trying, shoot them. No...don't shoot them...slowly torture them to death...same with people who think LBP is too childish!

*still in the process to find and slowly torture SS4 to death*

I know that a group of twenty people does not a national survey make, and have no desire to see people stop buying and playing the Wii. However I’m saying that I can see, even if it is a false perception, why it seems that people stop going back to their Wiis. And I would like to know how to get the people I know back to gaming, so thanks for the suggestions, even though a slow torture game might be a hard sell.

I think one problem with the Wii is that it has great multiplayer games, but you can’t take many or any of them online, with voice, so it maybe that tanks is more fun than COD4 but you’ll need your friends round if you want the added fun of being called a bastard.

PS I think SS4 is trying to reform himself after a suggestion / warning from Tim. So hold those torture thoughts for the moment, if you can. If can’t, seek help.

I knew what you were getting at though and the more then half my suggestions are great single player games. The problem not many people know about good Wii-games is that they don't get much coverage compared to the popular theme "Ninty is the casualzzz! Killing the INDUSTRIE!!!" which is getting more down time...i mean, even Spong did not report the announcement of Sin of Punishment 2!

But i do agree that the Wii is indeed a bigger local multiplayer console then the other two, but it is bloody well good at it too. 2009 will be the year when the Wii will start to get treated as the market leader by third parties aka it's getting the most good exclusive games.
