All the holding of the breath and the "Will cute and lovely win out against brutal and fighty?" arguments that everybody has been having in the pub can be put to rest. So can the "Will the PS3-exclusive wipe the floor with the Xbox 360 exclusive?" calm and balanced discussions you've been having over croissants.
Not only has Epic's Gears of War 2 Xbox 360 bone-cruncher hit top spot in the Chart-Track Gfk All Formats chart, according to Chart-Track, "Gears of War 2 becomes the third largest 360 Week 1 title ever (behind GTA IV and Halo 3)", it is also "the eighth largest Week 1 overall."
That's a straightforward win.
So, how did LittleBigPlanet do bearing in mind that it had two days more on sale? Well, the PS3 exclusive came in... at Number 4. Sitting above Sackboy was last week's Number 1, Fallout 3 at Number 3 and also multi-format FIFA 09 at Number 2.
The rest of the Top 10 is largely expected with only two new entries aside from Gears 2 and LBP. These come in the form of Professor Layton And The Curious Village for the DS; and the multi-format THQ offering of WWE Smackdown Vs Raw 2009. The latter saw, "PS3 and 360 virtually neck and neck with 34% and 33% of sales respectively."
Next week, look out for Call of Duty: World at War coming this week - and a fine bet for Xmas Number 1. That's if the aunties and grannies don't all plump for FIFA 09... that's if Need For Speed: Undercover doesn't nick it; well, it is Xmas.
