Nintendo Wii's Virtual Console Gets Fresh Sonic Stages!
It's Friday, folks. That means it's time to leave the worries of the week behind and treat yourself to some retro gaming goodness on the Wii. If, you know, you have a Wii and you like that sort of thing... Anyway, SPOnG has the rundown on this week's Virtual Console offerings. It's all very old-school.

First up, we have the Master System version of Sonic the Hedgehog! First released in 1991, Sonic's about... who are we kidding? You know what it's about (hedgehog, platforms, going fast – just in case you've been living in a cave under the sea on another planet in a parallel universe where there's no other sentient life). The exciting thing here is that Nintendo states the Virtual Console version features “new stages, new bosses and a whole new level map”! It's yours for 500 Wii Points.

Next up is Boulder Dash, which first hit the Commodore 64 in 1984. It's a puzzler that sees Rockford mucking around in the ground looking for diamonds. One wrong move, however, will see tonnes of rock crashing down on him and turning him into squidgy pulp. This game actually went in the wrong direction, getting ported from home console to the arcades. You can have it for 500 Wii Points.

Finally, we have Jumpman. Another golden oldie from the C64 (even earlier this time – 1983), Jumpman sees players dashing around with superhuman speed across ropes, ladders and girders to make it through mazes and defuse a series of bombs put down by the Alienators. Phew! It'll cost you 500 Wii Points to save the world with Jumpman.

This week's releases bring the Wii's total number of games up to 252.
