Dropship hovers over Sony’s stand at E3

We played the demo and we liked it a lot.

Dropship, currently in development by Sony's Camden studio, is a futuristic air combat game coming soon to the PlayStation 2. It offers a challenging mix of tactical and action-packed missions as you take part in a variety of assignments, ranging from stealth and surveillance to escort and patrol, each strategy requiring the deployment of suitable tactics. Dropship enables you to play a central role in an epic war that escalates and unfolds as you progress through the game. Your decisions and tactics directly influence the fate of those that rely on your skill and good judgement in the heat of the battle.

We had a good long look at the demo version of Dropship on Sony’s stand at E3, and it looks like there’s another genuine reason to get excited about forthcoming games for the PS2. There were many things that impressed in the demo, such as the draw distance, the ships’ handling in both hover and flight modes, and the sensation of first climbing thousands of feet through the clouds, and then diving back down to take out the enemy’s ground installations. Getting used to the controls took a little while, but this was the only gripe we could find with the demo. Excuse the pun, but the finished version of Dropship should fly off the shelves when it makes its retail appearance later this year.
