Capcom, it would seem, will be pretty glad if
Street Fighter IV is regarded as just a graphical upgrade to
Street Fighter II.
Speaking in an interview about the differences between the two games, Producer Yoshinori Ono said, "Well, you know obviously there are subtle differences, wider screens and speed. But ultimately we wanted to create a sequel to
Street Fighter II, so if someone says this looks just like
Street Fighter II with glorified graphics, then that's music to our ears!"
That's encouraging, innit? 17 years of gaming evolution since
Street Fighter II first came out and all the devs have managed to do is improve the graphics!
There was also a rather beguiling comment from Ono. Asked if there would be an adventure mode in the console version, he commented, "We said that
Street Fighter IV is a tool, it's not an entertainment video game". Whahuh?
