It's Nintendo versus Nintendo at the top of the Charts today. Unfortunately for Nintendo, Nintendo has won out. Mario Kart Wii has taken some kind of mushroom power-up to speed two places past Wii Fit (with a 6% rise in sales) and claim the top spot.

Wii Fit is left to Number 2, suffering a 24% drop in sales. Still, Mario Kart Wii's success gives Nintendo its ninth Number 1 in 19 weeks.

Are you bored of the Olympics yet? The rest of the UK ain't. SEGA's Beijing 2008 is up a whopping 10 places to Number 3. SEGA's other Olympic tie-in, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, has also done a spot of climbing. It's up four places to Number 4.

The Top 5 has given SPOnG a warm glow of nostalgia this week. Wii Play rounds it out, holding steady from last week and ensuring the two former rivals share the top half of the Top 10.

Chart-Track tells us that “Nintendo claims the lead format on 8 of the Top 10 games with 6 out of the 10 exclusive to Wii or DS.” Furthermore, in the Individual Formats Top 20 (that's the Top 20 games broken down into individual versions) for units, Nintendo platforms account for 15 placings.

Activision Blizzard's Guitar Hero franchise does well, with the third instalment in the series hanging in there at Number 6 and On Tour for the DS at Number 10, down three places from Number 7.

There are just two new games in the Top 40 this week – EA's Madden NFL 09 at Number 17 and Eidos's Summer Athletics (for PC, PS2, Wii and 360) at Number 25.

Next week the Game of the Year Edition of Activision's Call of Duty 4 should give the game a boost, while SEGA has Space Siege out and 2K Play's Carnival Funfair Games gets a release on the DS.

You can see the Top 10 in full below (last week's positions are in brackets).

I have never owned a Mario Kart before so can't comapre to the other versions but this one for the Wii is a fun game. I was worried before I bought that the Wii wheel would not work very well. I was way wrong, I think it works very well. The tracks and game play are a lot of fun for someone of any age. The game is easy to learn for beginners and is fun for the more experienced gammer. The game reminds me of something you would play at an arcade with all kinds of things going on as you drive through the course. Playing against friends is a lot of fun a well. I tried out the on line play and it was a blast. I just had fun comapred to some of the xbox/ps3 on line racing games where it can be stressful trying to compete and listening to angry 13 year olds. If you are looking for a game that is fun for the family, especailly the kids, I would pick this one up. Its easy to learn and a lot of fun to play.
