Sony announces that something we didn't think would happen... won't

PlayStation 3: Leipzig Fog Rolls In
We are now all well aware that Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has some 'blockbuster' announcements lined up for this week's Leipzig GDC. One of the few that hasn't really raised its usually predicatable head, however, has been another price cut for the PlayStation 3.

So, it comes as somewhat surprising that that a SCEE spokesman, Nick Caplin, has told the Reuters agency that such a price cut won't be busting any blocks.

"It's not going to happen. If you're coming for that you'll be disappointed", says Caplin.

That's good to know, Nick. However, the chances of anybody coming all the way over to the former East Germany to hear that the PS3 is to have a price cut is, frankly, totally unlikely. We're waiting to hear about new games, LittleBigPlanet public playable demos, Home being more than Beta, third-party exclusives, touch-screen PSPs and across the board price cuts for everything currently on Blu-ray... just a few ideas there.

Let's hope this mention of console price cuts isn't just a wave of fog before the snow. The more charitable side of the SPOnG newsroom would also like to point out, however, that at least Caplin is making and out-and-out statement of FACT before the event. For this, we applaud him.
