Epic Games' VP, Mark Rein, has confirmed to SPOnG that there will be filters in
Gears of War 2 to moderate more adult content. He's keen to stress, however, that this does not make
Gears 2 a game for kids and casuals.
"Nothing about
Gears 2 is 'family friendly' - it is a MATURE title. However there are options for turning down 'strong language' and 'gore'", Rein told SPOnG.
The
options in question will turn on-screen blood into sparks and will filter out nasty cuss words.
Frankly, this has Microsoft's fingerprints all over it. It fits right in with the parental controls the company has built into the Xbox 360 and, of course, won't hurt sales. While it arguably won't make the title any more family friendly, it may make a few parents who would otherwise baulk at the gore and bad language in the title a bit more inclined to buy it for Little Johnny.
SPOnG caught up with Mark Rein for a full interview not too long ago. You can catch it
