Capcom and DC Comics have got together to produce brand spanking new comics based on the
Devil May Cry and and
Resident Evil franchises.
The comics will both be published under DC's Wildstorm imprint, which deals with the company's licensed properties and is headed up by superstar artist Jim Lee, who just happens to be the executive creative director of Sony Online's
DC Universe Online. The imprint has dealt with
Resident Evil comics in the past – the most recent being
Resident Evil: Fire & Ice, which ran from 2000 to 2001.
Details on content, format, launch dates and creative teams are all absent for the time being, with Capcom saying they will be announced at a later date.
“Comics are a critical component in Capcom’s merchandising strategy for our most cherished franchises, as they target the same discerning, loyal fans that care most about these established brands. DC’s undisputed development and distribution strength within the comic industry make them an ideal partner to further expand two of our most successful and sophisticated gaming properties”, said Germaine Gioia, senior VP of Licensing for Capcom.
Wildstorm already publishes the
World of Warcraft dead tree series, while comics of Sierra's
Prototype and Epic's
Gears of War are on the way.
