Just one of a host of E3 revelations from THQ’s this week is Dark Summit. Ostensibly a snowboarding game from the team that brought us MTV Sports: Pure Ride and MTV Sports: Snowboarding, this time around there’s more to it than mere ‘melons’, ‘slobs’ and ‘stalefish’. There’s a storyline, for heaven’s sake, and a series of tasks to work through as you investigate the mysterious goings-on at Mount Garrick, and the king of the slopes, creepy ranger Chief O’Leary. He has rendered certain parts of the mountain inaccessible, and it’s down to you to find out exactly why.
“Dark Summit is a revolutionary game design in that it’s the first snowboarding game to incorporate mission-based objectives and a compelling story line,” said Michael Rubinelli, vice president, product development, THQ. “It combines high flying, crazy, big air tricks with tactical challenges and a compelling story line to keep gamers hooked from beginning to end, yet it never loses sight of the tight physics and gorgeous graphics you’d expect from a ground breaking Xbox title.”
The accompanying Xbox screenshots illustrate the aforementioned “gorgeous graphics”. Dark Summit will also be available on Sony’s PS2 toward the end of 2001.
