E3: Killzone 2 is Unforgotten

New screens

Posted by Staff
Guerilla Games' Killzone 2 might not have been a huge part of Sony's keynote yesterday, but SPOnG hasn't forgotten it. We've got some fresh screens for it right here.

The good news is, it still looks good. It still looks like a perfect opportunity to shoot aliens and it still looks all grim and industrial. The explosions still look pretty and... the Helghast still look creepy with their hose noses.

But Guerilla - just get the game out already! We've been hearing about Killzone 2 for yonks, but the release date just lurks on the horizon. The last we heard is that the game will be out in February next year - that came from the president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, David Reeves at Sony's PlayStation Day in London.

Anyway, Killzone 2 is still looking good. See for yourself. You'll find some of the new screens below and some over on SPOnG's dedicated game page.

How can anyone play any game especially a shooter with the s**ttest pad ever created??? Seriously the pad is cheaply made, triggers are absolute crap as are the sticks and they are in the wrong place.

the s**ttest pad ever created???

The s**ttest pad ever created. The Dual Shock. One of the most popular joypads of all time.

Granted, it is not ideal for an FPS. However, I played through the first Killzone with it and I loved it. I'm actually playing it through again now. The only problem I really find playing an FPS with the pad is that the analogue sticks aren't quite sensitive enough.

Otherwise, calling it the "s**ttest pad ever created" once again invalidates any decent opinion you might have had but kept secret to yourself.

You sold your PS3. Long ago. Remember ? So you no longer have to use the `s**ttest` pad ever. Yes ? So what's the problem? Or....are you really a closet PS3 fan, after your 360 said bye bye in a blaze of glowing red lights ?

Its not the DualShock...its either the SixAxis or the DualShock3...

The original DualShock was one of the most successful and influential console controllers in history...one that got everything right and the state of the art at the time.

Today's versions (assuming the DS3's shoulder buttons resemble those on the 6A) are unnacceptable in 3 areas...FPS', racing games, and setting down on a flat surface without hitting one of the shoulder buttons.

The pseudo-triggery R and L 2 buttons score an epic fail for being both convex and liable to tigger when the controller is being set down after say, starting a BluRay movie, making them actually a step backwards from the original's. Add to this the unnerving feeling (which I'm sure one could get used to, if one wanted to) that your fingers want to constantly slip off them and you have a controller that I couldn't wait to put down. Now if someone at Sony rubbed two braincells together and corrected this in the DS3 by making them convex and not as easily triggered by casually setting the controller down on a flat surface, by all means let me know and kudos to them...I just don't think they did.

The original DualShock was..

I've never used a DS3 so I can't comment. Or a SixAxis for that matter. But I use the Dual Shock 2 for Killzone and I think it's great. Not perfect, but great. I like it better than the 360 pad for sure.

Although my favourite pad of all time is still my wireless Mad Catz Xbox Controller S, which is practically the official pad design itself bar the slight branding on the unit. I wonder if I can get an adapter for the PS2, hmm..

Really...I had a Logitech, it was OK, but I still preferred the 1st party version and the current 360 pad. I always had horrid luck with 3rd party PS memory cards and the like so I've always shied away from most 3rd party stuffs.

As far as the adapter goes, that one place would prolly be the place who'd have it, ahh, wotsit, the Asian place...dammit can't remember the name...you know where I'm talking about, I think...

I always get first party products, even if they have less features and are more expensive, because I'm a completist. But I also wanted a wireless Xbox pad and so I gave the Mad Catz one a try. And I'm glad I did!

Do you mean Lik Sang? I didn't realise it was still going. Either way, I reckon the adapter is out there. To Google I go!

yeah, dem.

For whatever reason every time I tried to come up with the name, I got SPOnGer's Yen Rug name instead.
