Mega Man 9 is heading to WiiWare and it's doing it in classic 8-bit style.
Scans of the latest issue of
Nintedno Power posted to Mega Man Network confirm that the game, which was recently
spotted on the Australian Classification Board's website, will be a download title on Nintendo's service.
Rather than going with all the crazy naming that has accompanied recent entries into the
Mega Man series (
Mega Man Star Force 2: Zerker X Saurian, we're looking at you) it would appear that Capcom is sticking with the name
Mega Man 9. The move reflects the old schoolstyle of the game, which once again has Dr Wily sending robots on a rampage and has a visual style that harks back to the days of the NES.
Reflecting on the release of this game as a downloadable title, Keiji Inafune of Capcom (better known for the likes of
Dead Rising and
Lost Planet these days), says that the simple fun of an old school
Mega Man game "doesn't fit into the grandiose and expansive world that the consumer gaming industry has become, and so you have to make games that match the current expectations."
Posting on the Capcom forum, Christian Svensson, corporate officer and VP of strategic planning & business development wrote, "I will also say,
NP only has part of the story. More to be learned later."
Thanks to PJ for the heads up in
the Forum.
