Prince of Persia: A King Falls on DS

Ubisoft has dished up details on the upcoming DS instalment in its Prince of Persia franchise. The game now has a name. That name is Prince of Persia: The Fallen King.

Rather than being a port of the new-generation game currently in production at Ubisoft Montreal for the PS3, 360 and PC, this title will stand on its own two feet as an original game. One look at the cartoony art style in the images below should be enough to convince you of that.

The game will have its own storyline but will tie into the new-gen games, which break with the continuity of the Sands of Time (much to the dismay of some fans). In the artwork you can see the glove that will feature as a new tool in the upcoming console games.

Ubisoft promises use of the touch screen and stylus to control the Prince in his acrobatics and combat. Additionally, players will be able to switch to a second character (no, not the lovely-looking Elika) known only as 'the Magus' right now. This chap (or chapette?) will help out with combat and puzzles, putting magical abilities at your disposal.

As for that all-new storyline, here's what Ubisoft has to say on the matter - "Facing imminent danger, the Prince flees to a deserted kingdom that seemingly offers sanctuary. Already touched by the evil Corruption, a dark substance that physically contaminates the land and the skies, the kingdom is filled with adventure, challenge and intrigue. As the Prince seeks a way to fight the spreading Corruption destroying the land, he encounters a partially infected creature that promises salvation. But is the creature truly an ally or merely an enemy in disguise? It seems this perilous alliance may be the only way for the Prince to face the forces of darkness and save the Persian kingdom from the Corruption once and for all."

Ubisoft had previously revealed that there would be a new Prince of Persia title for the DS, but remained tight-lipped on the details until now.
