Nintendo and Gamestation plan to kick off Super Smash Bros. Brawl's public life with a bang. A nationwide tournament will be held in Gamestation shops across the country to decide who is the UK's best brawler on the weekend Smash Bros. is released.

The tournament, dubbed the ‘Super Smash Bros. Brawl Showdown’ will throw 1,280 gamers into the mix to compete to win a Samsung Home Entertainment Centre. 64 players will compete at each of Gamestation's 20 selected stores on June 28th, the day after Smash Bros. launches.

Two groups of 32 players will duke it out in each store in Smash Bros.' 'Tourney Mode', with the two winners going into a two-player final. SPOnG hoped to see the winners testing the game's online functionality in a further nationwide tournament of champions, but instead the winner from each shop will get an Entertainment Centre. We won't complain, however, since the package includes (in Nintendo's words) a "Samsung 40” Full-HD LCD TV and a Samsung Home Theatre System, including a DivX-compatible DVD player, subwoofer and 5 Dolby Digital stereo speakers." 20 chances to win one of those is better than one. The runner up in each location will get an iPod Nano.

To sign up, just head this way before June 21st. You have to be over 12 to enter.
