One of the biggest events of the video game calendar is the E3 show in Los Angeles. The Daddy of games shows in the English-speaking world, E3 is the premier event for developers and publishers to show their forthcoming wares. 2001’s show is destined to be huge, with the imminent arrival of the Xbox, Game Cube and the Game Boy Advance platforms. The PlayStation 2 is just entering its second generation of software titles with the quality of both graphics and gameplay rising. Leading games manufacturer Konami has recently announced which products it will be showing. The list is impressive:
Dance Dance Revolution Bundle Pack—PS One
Castlevania: Circle of the Moon—GBA
Konami Krazy Racers—GBA
Ephemeral Fantasia—PS2
Silent Hill 2—PS2
Airforce Delta Storm—Xbox
Frogger: The Great Quest—PS2, GBA
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty—PS2
Silent Scope 2: Dark Silhouette—PS2
Police 911—PS2
Jurassic Park III: The DNA Factor—GBA
Jurassic Park III: Park Builder—GBA
Jurassic Park III: Primal Fear—GBA
From this list, you can see that Konami are fully committed to the Game Boy Advance and the PlayStation 2. Three titles in particular will be greeted eagerly by those who take their gaming seriously: Silent Hill 2, Silent Scope 2 and Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, all for the PS2. Silent Hill 2 is a survival horror game with a captivating story-line, In Silent Scope 2 you are a professional sniper and Metal Gear Solid 2 is pure tactical espionage action. But these games, all sequels, will do nothing to silence critics that point out that the industry seems to be short on innovation at present.
