Codemasters Rescues SEGA Racing Studio
A good news story for UK games development? With no irony nor cynicism? Yes! Codemasters has declared that it is coming to the rescue of Birmingham-based SEGA Racing Studio.

The SEGA studio, best known for the SEGA Rally series, was to be closed with a substantial loss of jobs for some talented and UK-based game development teams.

Develop magazine reports industry veteran and Codies' CEO Rod Cousens' comments as follows, "In seizing this opportunity, we have created additional resources to escalate our plans in the racing segment."

“We hope to welcome more than 40 people to the company and we have enjoyed the full co-operation of our friends at Sega in making this happen. It is good business for Codemasters, an exciting prospect and there will be more to come as we are not content to stand still."

Well, brilliant. Good news all round.

Hey, bravo Codemasters. That's the best news I've heard this week. Its encouraging to save that talent from the ether. If only more could do this kind of thing. SCi still have their heads on the chopping block.

Daytona USA or 2001 with online play on Live and PSN, perhaps we could yet see it, if Sega are okay with that.

Who knows, with more DC/Arcade Sega games on the way, it might happen. Just don't get them to make Turning Point 2, that was awful.
