Metallica Attempts to Ride Video Game 'Craze'

But have to slow the whole thing down in order to mount up.

The next person who stands up and says, "Video games, they're for kids, right?" will be asked to leave the planet. It is now official, video games such as Guitar Hero and Rock Band are the Noughties' equivalent of Trivial Pursuit - dinner party fun.

Why do we say that this is 'official'? Simple, the most corporate of all corporate rock bastards, Metallica, have decided that video games are 'cool'. Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine, crazy man of slippers, drummer Lars Ulrich said, "Our kids love playing Guitar Hero and Rock Band. It's awesome."

The fact that Metallica might be releasing its next single via the power of Rock Band wouldn't have a thing to do with it.

Apparently, video games are positive because they enable, "your kids talk to you about Deep Purple and Black Sabbath and Soundgarden".

Do what? It's cool to have your kids talk to you about bands who stopped having hits before you were born lets alone before they were born? Sounds more like metal (sic) retardation to us.

That aside, at least with upstanding corporate citizens such as Metallica supporting video games, we've all got a safe and conservative future.

I really don't know why you are being so cantankerous here. My father and I base our ability to always converse with ease and without awkwardness on a fairly similar music/film taste. I, for example, only recently discovered Van Morrison's Veendon Fleece, an album he loves and one I am wholly engrossed in (probably his best I think...) The Good, The Bad and the Ugly is a tantamount film.

What that implies concerning our relationship aside, how you can concieve of these moments when parent and child connect at a similar level as metal (sic: mental) retardation is beyond me. I actually do think it's cool (though I would not often describe it as such) that 30/40 years after my father first heard Cul-de-sac I can listen and discuss it with comparitable awe.

Metallica are no good, I understand. Nevertheless, your comments seem only to undermine the article as sound reporting.

Emphatic cosign.

I suppose he should be talking about f**king emo crap like what the kids listen to nowadays. Go listen to your Top 40 radio and leave the real music to those who can appreciate it, its evolution and its history, you nekulturny t**t. Hits indeed...

[rant]I mean its not as though Metallica isn't already involved, thank the FSM the Metallica track pack (for Rock Band) was all stuff from before they went all funny in the head (...And Justice For All, Blackened, and Ride the Lighting) Keep the pre-"Black Album" stuff coming, and for chrissakes don't even THINK about offering anthing post-Black...theres NOTHING (aside from a very few of the new tracks on Garage Inc.) , not one single track, thats better than any single track from the Very Good Years.[/rant]

Also, Soundgarden was always underappreciated.

Colour me confused Rio, are you telling me that Van Morrison is the typical uncultured emo child's weapon of choice? (I use the term deliberately). Also I typically, if near a radio, tune to Classic or Lyric fm, simply to rid myself of all the swishing and bleeping crap that most other stations feel edictally obliged to include. I am only concerned that you are referring to me - I understand Metallica were a innovative band - For Whom The Bell Tolls is something special, as is Nothing Else Matters. Songs I first discovered when I was around 14. I was also a giant AC/DC 'head' and although I've kept the appreciation, I have mellowed somewhat - hence the Van reference. Though, I do wear a Captain Beefheart t-shirt with some pride (that he came before, and at times, more 'noisy' than anything mentioned so far). Blah blah blah. What I want to know is are you referring to me? and if so Rio, for someone so apparently pedantic you may have missed my point.

Which would be so silly lol.

In other words I totally and completely agree with the quoted statement.

The vitriol was directed at the so-called article's author.

And its Roi...you have neither seen me on the beach, nor on TV...

AH, apologies for the mis-spelling - watching too much football lately you see.

The 'emphatic cosign' part was what confused me - I was glad to see you appeared to agree, it was only that what followed appeared to be directed at me condescendingly - 'I suppose he should be...'

Anyway, thank you for clearing that up.

NP, sorry for the confustion...

You know MS opens a trial against Alcatel-Lucent SA today (patent infringement dealing with DVDs and Xbox/Media Player), but instead we get this non-story from some smug jackass...
