Nintendo guru Shigeru Miyamoto has hinted at the possibility that a
Mario game could use the
Wii Fit Balance Board in the future.
Speaking in an interview, Miyamoto said:
"[Balance Board support in other games] will depend on how well Wii Fit sells in America and Europe! But just looking at how many have sold in Japan already opens up the possibility of... well, maybe not a Mario game that requires the Balance Board to play it, but certainly one that takes advantage of it."
2K Games has recently said that
Don King Prize Fighter Boxing will make use of the Balance Board, although for pre-fight fitness training rather than for the fights themselves.
Miyamoto also discussed the possibility of connectivity between
Wii Fit and the Nintendo DS, saying, “We also talked about trying to incorporate some form of DS connectivity. We've designed it in a way that by potentially upgrading the
Wii Fit Channel we could add upgrades that would allow us to add that kind of functionality... It's even possible a third party could create a fitness game that would be able to read your saved fitness data."
Intriguing stuff. SPOnG's sure you'll agree that the prospect of being able to make yourself feel miserable by accessing your fitness stats when you're out and about as well as from your living room is... a worrying thought. That said, it's certainly good to see Nintendo pushing its platforms' online functionality.
