Chalk up another notch on Mario's belt. He's taking to to the baseball diamond on the Wii in
Mario Super Sluggers.
The game was announced as part of Nintendo's semi-annual media summit, which offers the American media the chance to get some hands on time with upcoming Wii, WiiWare and DS titles.
In amongst the puffing of the announcement, the grit runs to the effect of, "Players can swing the wireless Wii Remote just like a real bat or wave it toward the plate to deliver a masterful pitch, enjoying the same intuitive, easy-to-learn controls that helped make
Wii Sports a living room hit." Swing the Wii Remote. Mario and chums. Job done.
Except, of course, for the obligatory exclamation of delight from Nintendo. Up to bat (you see what we did there, we know you did) this time is Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive VP of Sales & Marketing. "Mario is truly a one-of-a-kind character; clearly fans can't get enough of him and his friends", she happily chirped. "We're giving Wii users brilliant new ways to enjoy him while expanding our series of active-play games."
You can see the first peice of artwork from the game above. If you need a quicker Mario fix than
Super Sluggers, SPOnG recommends going out and grabbing a copy of
Mario Kart Wii, which is released today.
