EA Expands Unreal Engine 3 Agreement
Electronic Arts and Epic Games have expanded their licensing agreement enabling EA to use the Unreal Engine 3... yes, it's more Unreal Engine 3 news. Actually, we'd be keen to know if you are using Unreal Engine 3 for any household chores.

Back to the news...

The deal will see the engine being used in five upcoming titles. The games in question? They ain't saying. “Details of the additional games in development under the new license agreement are not being released at this time”, the announcement tells us.

EA's previous licensing agreement for the engine was signed in 2006. The technology has been used in Medal of Honour Airborne, Army of Two and the upcoming Tiberium. So... sequels to all the above are reasonable bets to include the engine.

We'd best hear what the involved parties have to say on the subject. “With the largest and most talented studio operation in the world, it’s critical for us to give our studio teams the best tools they need to make great games”, Frank Gibeau, president of EA chirpily informs us. “This agreement reflects our commitment to Epic’s technology which, in combination with our own cutting-edge systems, allows us to create ground breaking hits.”

“Epic is committed to providing EA with the premier development infrastructure, tools and technology for its upcoming games”, said Mark Rein, vice president of Epic Games. “We’re extremely excited that EA has chosen to expand their use of Unreal Engine 3 and we can’t wait to see more of the great games they will produce with it.”

While Epic says it is committed to supporting EA with the Unreal Engine 3, other developers don't feel they've received the service they were entitled to. Licensees have been subpoenaed by the legal team supporting Silicon Knights, which claims Epic breached the Unreal Engine 3 licensing agreement between the two companies.

Another publisher that has recently arranged use of the Unreal Engine 3 is Take Two, which EA is currently in the process of trying to take over.
