Ubisoft Announces New Tom Clancy IP

Clancy name takes to the skies

Posted by Staff
No sooner has the ink dried on the deal that gives Ubisoft the exclusive rights to the Tom Clancy name in games, than a new title under the Clancy banner has been confirmed. The latest game in the franchise will be Tom Clancy’s HAWX (high-altitude warfare... X?) and will thrust PS3, 360 and PC owners into the cockpit of a fighter jet.

Well, 50 high-powered jets, if you're feeling adventurous. Just not all at the same time...

Here's how Ubisoft describes the plot: "The story begins in the year 2012. As the era of the nation-state draws quickly to a close, the rules of warfare evolve even more rapidly. More and more nations become increasingly dependent on private military companies (PMCs), elite mercenaries with a lax view of the law. The Reykjavik Accords further legitimize their existence by authorizing their right to serve in every aspect of military operations. While the benefits of such PMCs are apparent, growing concerns surrounding giving them too much power begin to mount."

Tom Clancy’s HAWX marks the next evolution of high altitude warfare in the Tom Clancy video game universe”, uttered John Parkes, EMEA Marketing Director at Ubisoft. “We are thrilled to take to the skies and provide a new environment along with an extension of a familiar storyline from our other successful Tom Clancy franchises such as Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter.”

You can find out more about the game's features here.

Cool, we need another flight combat sim, I have diminished interest in the Ace Combat series, too tied to its arcadey roots...and I trust ubi and Tom's name to keep it real-ish...I'm dissapointed they tied it to Advanced Warfighter though, I suppose the rationale for the furture settings of both is to avoid as much as possible offending the places you have to blow up and the people you kill in them. Killing Mexicans in a game set in the present is bad, mmmk? but if we make them Future Mexicans, thats not so bad, mmmk? Not that we'll be dealing with flying lowriders in this one...likely Russian, Chinese, French, and Indian designs...is anyone else designing fighter airplanes for export? Sweden? oh, no doubt there will be the odd Harrier...

I might have to go pick up a used copy of Over-G now...already beat it, twice, but that was on someone elses 360 a long time ago...
