Assassin's Creed Takes a Steam Bath
Valve and Ubisoft have announced that a host of the French publisher's titles - including Assassin's Creed - is bound for Valve's online PC gaming platform, Steam, for North American gamers.

We're told, in fact, that there will be over 40 Ubisoft games available for download on Steam. As well as Assassin's Creed, titles such as those from the Tom Clancy franchise, Heroes of Might and Magic series, the IL-2 Sturmovik collection and Far Cry will be up for grabs. We're informed that packs of many of the franchise games will be available in the coming weeks.

"Ubisoft will be delivering the largest library of titles available from any single publisher or developer to Steam", uttered Jason Holtman, director of business development at Valve. "The incredible selection of high quality games from Ubisoft expands the range of genres offered to the millions of PC gamers logging on to Steam every day."

Ubisoft feels... you can probably guess how Ubisoft feels about the deal, but we'll let Andy Swanson, senior director of strategic sales and partnerships at the publisher, tell you. "Ubisoft is excited to be able to offer Steam customers the ability to purchase our upcoming PC releases of Assassin's Creed and more", he said. "In addition, we really believe that Steam customers will enjoy access to our wider range of award-winning, previously released titles as well as future AAA releases such as Far Cry 2. We look forward to working with Steam and continuing to strengthen our commitment to the PC gaming community with innovative products and wider distribution channels."

So there you go, another chunk of games that will be available online to save bricks and mortar retailers the bother of taking gamers' cash. As far as Steam goes, the last big deal announced was with Epic last month.
