But... how much do they differ?

Fallout 3's 200 Endings Get Pinch of Salt
Todd Howard, executive producer for Bethesda Softworks, has said that Fallout 3 has over 200 endings.

Speaking in a podcast, Howard said,

"Being that we are Bethesda, everything gets a bit big, so as of last week we're over 200 endings. That's not an exaggeration."

Well, it might not be an exaggeration, but it can't go unqualified. This is the guy who, just back in February, said of the reports of 12 endings for Fallout 3 doing the rounds, "That number is artificially inflated, in that what you get at the very end is based on a number of things you’ve done."

Back in February Howard also said, “Some of those tweaks to the ending are pretty small, so I think it’s better to simply say the game has multiple endings based on what you did. Some of the really big decisions that affect the end you make right at the end, but some of them deal more with your karma, and how you’ve lived your life."

So... take that 200 figure with a pinch of salt.

Back to the present and Howard also claimed, “Fallout's probably twice the size that we originally had on paper.” Just how big? "We've definitely gone overboard... It won't end up being as big as Oblivion, but it's approaching that. The game is easily a hundred hours." That's if you plough through every little side-quest. The main quest is currently aimed at around 20 hours.
