Sony has announced details of a new
Warhawk expansion pack, dubbed
Operation: Broken Mirror, which will include a brand new snow-covered territory and a muscular new vehicle.
So, with lovely American spelling comes... Vaporfield Glacier, that would be the new territory not a really big, really slow-moving vehicle. Up on the glacier, "snowy conditions blanket an intricate network of freeways and towns, the hub of which is the war torn Radial Village", according to Sony.
"Desperate for an advantage, the Eucadian army has established a research base in the southern polar wastes, far away from the active battle fronts. However, there is a mole in the camp and secret intelligence has been leaked to the Chernovan command instigating a lethal invasion force", Sony goes on.
(We always knew the Chernovan's had more guts!)
The area will feature seven arenas capable of holding different numbers of players, ranging from four to 32.
To go with it, developer Incognito has built a new vehicle. It's not, unfortunately, a rocket-powered mono-ski. It's the Armoured Personnel Carrier. It does what it says on the tin. It carries personnel - and it's armoured. It comes complete with six hatches for passengers to stick their weapons through, as well as a speed boost for a power finish.
The beasty eight-wheeler will also act as a forward spawn point for reinforcements. If all that wasn't enough, it comes with a driver-activated E-POD (Electrostatic Plasma Ordinance Disrupter). Sony tells us that it “emits a burst of energy that absorbs enemy fire to provide a temporary shield for your troops. It’s also a hazard for enemy Warhawk which are destroyed if they come into contact with it."
If you can't wait for the expansion (it's due sometime in April – you really should be able to) there's a patch coming to tide you over. It includes two weapons – the wrench (replaces the knife for melee combat, fixing your vehicles and smashing up your opponents') and the Bio Field Generator (also replaces the knife, regenerates your team and does in your opponents).
The last
Warhawk expansion pack came out in December under the moniker
Operation: Omega Dawn.
Operation: Broken Mirror will be available to download for £3.99.
