Cute Cheerleaders for Nintendo Wii Balance Board

Yup, you can live out someone's fantasy on Wii.

This is George W Bush, you know - he was a cheerleader.

THQ has finally confirmed details of its DS, Wii (and Balance Board)-based cheerleading game - and guess what? It's aimed at girls and it's out in 'the Fall'.

It is being developed by Florida-based Gorilla and is the first original piece of intellectual property produced by THQ for Wii and DS - and that's according to THQ itself.

All Star Cheer Squad is, so THQ tells us, the "First-ever Cheerleading Video Game" and it comes with the wisdom and expertise not of Toni Basil (see below) but of "world-renowned cheerleading choreographer Tony G".

"With the explosive growth of the girls gaming market in recent years due to the continued success of Wii and DS, our ongoing goal is to stay at the cutting edge of that success by bringing a brand new property for this segment to these popular systems," said Jim Huntley, director of global brand management, THQ.

Fancy calling girls 'a segment'! Anyway, "In All Star Cheer Squad, players will follow a year in the life of a cheerleader as they (she?) learn new cheers, participate in practices and create their own routines to make the squad and eventually become captain.

"All Star Cheer Squad will also incorporate use of the Wii Balance Board to get the player's entire body involved in the game and add to the ultimate cheerleading experience".

Sorry, but (a) surely actually leading a cheer is the ultimate cheerleading experience? (b) if it's the ultimate cheerleading experience, how can you add to it?

Back to the word from THQ, "Players will be able to customize the look of their cheerleader and squad including body, facial features, hair and outfits.

"The Nintendo DS version of the game will feature a storyline unique to the system that focuses on the adventure of cheerleading camp, where players will compete to beat the rival camp".

We don't know about you, but we're going quite squishy with excitement about this, and we are like so totally going to call all our friends for a sleep-over and a Wii night (not Shannon though, she is like, so, totally a pig!)
