Remember back to a more innocent time when the porn industry simply ripped off mainstream films for the 'plot'? Remember that back then, well established newspapers such as New York's
The Village Voice would report on arts and news in the Big Apple?
The world has changed since then. The porn industry has discovered video games are played by people who can afford... porn. According to The Village Voice this includes "high quality" porn such as the
Whorelore: Swords, Sorcery, and Sex series.
The Voice's tagline for its story is, "Welcome to a dusty fantasy land of deep-throating elf ears, masturbating trolls, and chain-mail-wearing porn stars".
The series apparently is, "...based on the immensely popular massive multiplayer online role-playing game,
World of Warcraft. A land of elves, fantasy, and eight million players..."
Well, ten million according to
Blizzard. Blizzard, however, doesn't appear to be to comfortable with a connection being drawn between its massively multi-player online fantasy outing - and porn. According to
The Voice, "Originally he (the director and producer, Dez) called his new project Whorecraft, but had to change the title due to some hush-hush legal flack from 'you know who.' Read: Blizzard Entertainment, the company that runs
World of Warcraft and looks out for its good name."
Now, all we have to wait for is for the 'video games as leaders of moral downfall' lobby to blame
World of Warcraft for the invention of pornography.
