Nintendo will announce the release dates for both the paunch-targeting
Wii Fit (
Wii Fitness for us Europeans) and WiiWare - its platform for online distribution of new games - at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco today.
The news comes from the
Wall Street Journal, which tells us that
Wii Fit will launch on May 19th, while WiiWare will sneak in a week before on May 12th.
On the off-chance you've been hiding under something heavy since Nintendo's
E3 announcement,
Wii Fit will get gamers buff through a series of exercise routines, and will ship with the pressure-sensitive Balance Board. For more on the title see SPOnG's review
here.
WiiWare, meanwhile, will enable developers with smaller budgets to distribute original Wii games online in a manner similar to Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network. Nintendo has said that it will only perform minimal checks for bugs on the games, but that they must be rated by the appropriate authorities.
No dates for
Wii Fit or WiiWare have been given for Europe as yet, but we await an announcement in the very, very, very, very, very near future...
Wii Fit launched in December in Japan and had
sold a million copies by early January.
