Todd Howard, executive producer of
Fallout 3, has said that Bethesda's upcoming post-apocalyptic RPG will come out on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 simultaneously.
"They should all be the same date", he said in an interview, "that’s our plan."
This is good news for PS3 owners who had to wait for Bethesda's RPG,
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Granted, the PS3 wasn't out when the game hit the PC and 360, but Bethesda didn't manage to have it out until four months after the console launched in the States.
Discussing the game's genre classification, Howard said, "When you’re making a shooter, you never ask 'can the player get married and have kids?' When you’re making an RPG, that type of thinking goes on all the time, so while it may look like a shooter, I think that dramatically undersells what the game does."
We think he means, "can the character get married and have kids" - at least we hope he does. If he doesn't then this is a whole new level of game design that we've never encountered before. We shall name it, 'Social Engineering Game Design'.
He also discussed
Fallout 3's multiple endings - downlplaying the number (previously said to be 12) - saying, "That number is artificially inflated, in that what you get at the very end is based on a number of things you’ve done. Some of those tweaks to the ending are pretty small, so I think it’s better to simply say the game has multiple endings based on what you did. Some of the really big decisions that affect the end you make right at the end, but some of them deal more with your karma, and how you’ve lived your life."
