The Charts: The Devil May Cry, But Has He?
This week in the Charts, Capcom has done something it never has before. It's got a Devil May Cry title to the top spot.

Yup, Devil May Cry 4 has made its way to Number 1 in its first week of release, in the All Formats Chart and both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 individual formats Charts. On the PS2, the Devil May Cry series only ever managed to reach Number 2. Clearly breaking tradition and releasing a game from the series on two formats simultaneously has helped – a fact made obvious by the 360 version snagging over 61% of the sales.

At Number 2 is Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games. It's seen a jump from Number 4 (and of 85% in sales) thanks to the release of the DS version to complement its Wii cousin (which shifted half a million copies in its first seven weeks).

Next up it's another new entry, with Disney's dino-slaughtering Turok – released on the PS3 and Xbox 360 - having entered the Charts at Number 3.

Electronic Arts' Burnout Paradise (reviewed here) hasn't been able to stand up against the deluge of new releases, sliding from the top spot to a still respectable Number 4.

A bit further down we have another new entry. Granted, Oxygen's PDC World Championship Darts has been out for three weeks on the PS2 and PC, but it's the Wii version that kicks up a dangerously pointy storm and gives the game its first All Formats Top 40 position at Number 6.

Another strong new arrival comes in the form of SEGA's The Club (reviewed here), which brutalises its way in at Number 9.

A couple of other new entries don't quite manage to break the Top 10. Eidos's Conflict: Denied Ops lands at Number 11, while a new Nintendo brain stretcher, Professor Kageyama’s Maths Training on the DS, enters the Charts at Number 16.

Next week, keep an eye out for Battalion Wars 2 on the Wii and Dark Messiah of Might and Magic: Elements for the 360.

You can see the Top 10 below (last week's position is in brackets) and catch the full Top 40 in SPOnG's Charts pages.

There are just under 2m 360's in the UK compared to just 850,000 PS3's so A 61/39% split means proportionally Devil May Cry has performed better on the PS3. Basically there are over twice as many 360's there because it was released a year earlier but DMC4 didnt sell twice as many units.

Where are you getting your figures from???

The overall percentage is based on world wide sales not just UK.

Over 17.7million 360's sold vs under 9million PS3's sold world wide.

WTF are you on about? The percentage he's referring to (61%) is for the sales of Devil may Cry 4, in the UK, last week.

But even your own figures 17.7 versus 9 million shows a 2:1 ratio of 360 to PS3. So you'd expect the sales split of a title to be 66%/33% - so Devil May Cry 4 has had a higher attach rate on the PS3. But that's not surprising, since Devil May Cry 1,2 and 3 were all PlayStation titles.

it's clear that WWWWWWWW is still waiting for his copy of DMC4 to load 6gigs on his PS3 harddrive before he can play the game so has to post fanboy crap in the mean time.

It's 4.8 gigs.

If you are going to make stupid comments atleast make them accurate. That way you make other people look stupid not yourself.

The fan base is closer to Sony so that's why it has a higher chance of selling better on the PS3....Not becuase there are more consles out there though that is a factor.

And like Capcom said...Go make a sandwhich while you wait.
