Nintendo's US 2008 Releases: Third-Parties Galore
Nintendo releases 'partial' US release list...
Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales and marketing, Cammie Dunaway, would appear to think that we're confused. In the introduction to Nintendo's latest US release list, she points out: "Our momentum is not limited to one system or one game. We're going broad and bold in 2008, with something for every member of the family".
Did anybody say that it was limited? Hands up? Nintendo has Wii and DS out there. Did anybody say it was limited to one game? We certainly didn't. Why would Cammie protest like that? Especially with a healthy looking release list (detailed below) packed with the kind of third-party support that many critics have suggested Nintendo is over-looking.
The "partial list of Wii and Nintendo DS software for the first half of 2008", which we're also told contains, "details are subject to change" - e.g. release dates - contains some 148 titles for both the Wii and the DS.
It adds to the current Wii line-up of "more than 195" titles and the DS's "current library of nearly 500". Seriously, doesn't the company know how many games it's currently got available?
Anyway, carping aside, there is mention of those gamers who might think they've been overlooked with specific mention of Intelligent Systems/Nintendo's Advance Wars: Days of Ruin as "...a treat aimed squarely at core gamers".
The March 9th release date (US) for Super Smash Bros. Brawl on Wii remains confirmed - thank the gods of gaming for that one. What of Mario Kart? Still no fixed date for the US - merely a 'Spring' slot.
Goichi Suda's (AKA SUDA51) "...nasty, gung-ho, fun action game" No More Heroes - anticipated as much for its game-play as for its non-family focused imagery and subject matter gets is merely dated as 'January' for the USA.
For us, it's good to see the Okami - a game about which we said, " (it will) enchant you with its story, beguile you with its beauty, and it will consume your every waking hour until all you can see is a wolf running free through a field covered in blossom" - due on March 25th for DS.
Before you get deep into the list however, get deep into the names of the third-parties who are opting for both systems:
