Square Enix: 2008 To Be Record Games Year For Japan

But is Wii still just a toy?

2008 will be third record-breaking year on the trot for games in Japan, according to Square Enix's president, Yoichi Wada.

Wada, who is also also chairman of Japanese industry body the Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association (CESA), said that revenues are likely to exceed 700 billion yen (£3.28 billion) at a group luncheon. "The market conditions are very favorable to growth for software makers worldwide", he said. "There are a lot of good titles out there helping to expand the market.''

2007 beat 2006 in terms of revenue by an impressive 9.9% in Japan. Combined hardware and software sales were up to 687.7 billion yen (£3.2 billion).

Industry tracker Enterbrain's CEO, Hirokazu Hamamura, supported Wada, saying, "The industry sales forecast is very realistic'', He also stated that he believes soon every family in Japan will own a piece of gaming hardware.

So, Wada's saying something the whole games industry can get behind, unlike in early December when he might have trodden on a few toes. He told the world that the Wii is seen as a toy and Sony's confused about what sort of machine it's producing with the PS3.

I can guarentee that Square Enix would make a killing and probably more than any developer in 2008 if they just did one thing...

Announce FF13 for Xbox 360 as well as PS3.

Beit that it will probably be on more than 1 disc like blue dragon but i didnt find it that much of a big deal since each disc on blue dragon got me around 11+hrs on each!

Yeah, why is it that some people do seem to find it a problem having more tahn one disc?, i mean we played, FF VII, VIII, & IX all one more than one disc and that wasnt a problem in the least.

Multiple discs aren't an issue for a linear type of story like you find in FF games, but can you imagine disc swapping in an open world game like GTA? Take a wrong turn into disc 2 territory and you have to swap before you can go back, or you have a prompt pop up that tells you you'll have to swap discs to go any further, do you want to continue?

Wrong! They just have to announce new remakes off FF and DQ and a remake of CHrono Trigger for the DS. Makes oodles more money then a porting over a overfunded game.

"Take this package to Joe Blow on <island two>, then come back for a package for Jim Bean on <island three> then report back to me for your reward."

That could be six disc swaps in one mission, total time about half an hour. A disc swap every five minutes? No thanks.

That would be one retarted developer to then spread out missions over several disks. Actually, come to think of it...they would be so retarted to do it.

Need to correct something, Hard-core gaming dieing in 2008 again. Murderers: WiiFit, Brawl and GTA4
