Tomb Raider: Underworld Delayed

Summer ditched for multi-platform launch

Tomb Raider: Underworld Delayed
Not only is it not being sold, but now SCi has announced that the recently revealed Tomb Raider: Underworld will be delayed, missing the originally planned summer release.

Rather than seeing release in June on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC as originally planned, the game will be released during the Christmas period across six platforms, bringing in the Wii, DS and PS2.

SCi tells us that as a result of moving the release date, it now expects to make an operating loss in fiscal 2008. The reason for that sacrifice? Long term planning. The company tells us, "the Board believes that these simultaneous multi-platform launches in the key buying period, optimises the value that these franchises can deliver to the Company over the long term."

Additionally, three as yet unnamed games have also been delayed.

On the upside, SCi also took the opportunity to let us know that "indications are that" Kane & Lynch has now sold a million copies since it launched in November. That puts the game ahead of Hitman: Blood Money over a like for like period. Not too shabby, given that the game was less than exceptional as far as SPOnG's Gareth was concerned.

SCi tells us, "We anticipate a positive sales trend to continue through the remainder of FY08 and for Kane and Lynch to firmly establish itself as another key franchise for the Group."
