Yeah, we could (and have been) have more exact: the 1m sales are quoted from until January 6th. The Enterbrain chart figure of 884k is to December 31st.

Cheers

Not at all surprising. I still think Wii Fit will lead to PS3 getting buried more this year. Once those females get a hold of it outside japan, it's gonna prolong the Wii hunting even more.

Never underestimate the power of female purses. If you want a Wii, I'd suggest hunting for one before Wii Fit comes out.

OK, so Wii gets the whole expanded market and most of the Gamecube owners from last gen, leaving the 360 and PS3 to fight it out among the 150M+ market that bought the PS2 and Xbox. I can't see either 360 or PS3 being buried.

hmmm 150m+ ? You're not counting all the ones that bought two or more PS2's ,which Sony admitted to be around 10%, that's around 15-20 M you have to discount. Then you have to discount all the people that don't buy consoles unless they're 199 dollar/euros (that's around 60-80% of those 150 M) and then you have to discount all the people who bought PS2's just as a casual gaming thing and are more inclined to buy Wii's now.

It depends on the context really and how the PS3 and Xbox360 will evolve in time in the price aspect and more broad selection of games. Right about now Sony and Microsoft are not in the position to drill that 150M+ but they can evolve to that position however.

The 10% figure would only affect the PS2 buyers, which would be about 12-13M, unless we're assuming the same percentage bought two or more Xboxes.

The "buy at $200" crowd are the ones who are most brand-led, they are the ones influenced by the lifestyle mags that only give superficial coverage to gaming. They are, to my mind, the ones who buy Madden and FIFA for a quick game after the pub. I believe they'll be more likely to stick with the console they bought last time.

Of course, you'll also have to count the casual gamers that get the gaming bug with the Wii and move on to a more powerful console and buy either a 360 or PS3.

In a worst-case scenario, you're still looking at over 100M sales to divide up between 360 and PS3, if they're fairly split that's total sales of about 60-70M for each console. I can't see anybody calling that getting buried.

I've said this before and I'll say it again, I'm putting my bet on the final market share figures coming out somewhere like 40/30/30% for PS3/360/Wii by the end of this generation. Nobody dominates, but I think PS3 will have the edge.

Call me a wussie, but I'm getting this. I'm the type of person who lives a very healthy lifestyle (aside from er,...reviewing absinthe, but for the record I do drink in strict moderation) in terms of nutrition, taking my vitamins, and exercising and working out regularly. So games like DDR, Yourself! Fitness, and Wii Sports make it easier to maintain this routine because they make it more enjoyable. Wii Fit, from the looks of it, while every mini game may not be the greatest, it holds a surprisingly complete body workout targeting specific muscles and tracks your progress to show you how far you've come. And yes, it will be expensive, but it's the same price as the next-gen DDR bundles, so can we really complain?
