Nintendo and other games companies have had Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards dished up by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences at the 59th annual ceremony at CES last night.
Nintendo's award was given in recognition of Nintendo's work with the Wii's motion-sensing control system, as well as for the DS's touch-screen. The DS also won an award in the Handheld Game Device Display Screen Innovation category. And no, they don't like to make their award category names short...
"The pioneering interfaces for Wii and Nintendo DS reflect our long tradition of seeking new ways to enhance the gaming experience for users at every level", said Nintendo of America's executive VP of operations, Don James. "We're grateful for this award and thank the academy for honouring us a second time."
Yup. Second; the first one was given out last year for Nintendo's "plus-shaped" (that's what they called it) D-pad. Nintendo wasn't the only gaming company to be highlighted. Other notables included an award to id Software for Quake's user-generated content, and Havok for its physics engine. Cast your eye downwards for a full list of gaming winners.
