Rumours surrounding
Metal Gear Solid 4 have raised their ugly heads. The word is, once again, that Konami will be releasing the fourth instalment in the traditionally PlayStation-exclusive franchise on the Xbox 360.
The source? This time it's allegedly a Konami distribution representative. XboxFamily reports that a rep - who "will not be named" - told the site that
MGS4 will be released on the 360 12 to 14 months after the PlayStation 3 version hits shelves.
Needless to say, the word(s) from a Microsoft rep was "no comment". SPOnG has contacted Konami to see what the publisher has to say on the subject, but at the time of press no comment was available.
It should be kept in mind, however, that while XboxFamily uses the meaningless phrase "this is pretty concrete",
MGS4's assistant producer, Ryan Payton,
said in November, "We're telling our fans that if you want to play
Metal Gear Solid 4, you have to buy a PS3...The PlayStation brand has always been good to us, and we're pretty bullish on the PS3."
Should the game make it to the 360, it will prove something of a coup for Microsoft, which has already
wrangled exclusive content for another PS3 third-party mainstay -
GTA IV. A year's delay for the release would not go quite so far as to turn the gaming world on its head, of course. Sony would still be able to claim the game as a 'timed exclusive'.
