Konami Japan’s most popular third party Publisher
Konami has come out on top in Japan over the last year, shifting more games than any other third party publisher.

“Konami Corporation has successfully proved its strong position in the Japanese video games market,” said a company spokesman. “Figures recently published in March's issue of Famitsu, Japan's most respected video game magazine, clearly revealed Konami as the dominant third party software publisher in Japan. The figures for the last fiscal year (April 2000 - March 2001) showed Konami to enjoy 15.8% of the Japanese market. The Konami Corporation beats all other software publishers by some margin, the market shares of Square being 9.9%, Capcom 6.1% and Namco 4.0%. Konami ranks second behind software and hardware publisher, Nintendo (20.3%).”

This will be excellent news to Konami and its shareholders. It is a difficult time for publishers at the moment in Japan, with many forecasting losses for the coming year.
