The U.S. sales figures for November are in and the Wii has had its best ever month, topping even its launch period last December.
During November, Nintendo sold 981,000 Wiis, 770,000 Xbox 360s were sold and Sony sold 466,000 PS3s.
The Wii topped last December's launch month figure by a whopping 60%. It could have done better, too, according to NPD. "Since there is still an evident inventory shortage at retail, it's difficult to say just how high sales could be if you took that issue out of the equation", NPD analyst Anita Frazier said.
That doesn't make it the best selling hardware platform in the US for November, however. That honour goes to the DS, which sold a whopping 1.53 million. That means the DS also had a bit of a milestone month, along with the 360. "[T]he NDS and Xbox 360 both realized their second best sales months yet, after December of last year", Frazier said.
The PSP and PS2, meanwhile, sold 567,000 and 496,000 units respectively, beating the PS3.
Lest Sony should feel left out with all the good hardware news flying around, SPOnG would also like to point out that the PS3 saw the biggest month to month sales jump of any hardware platform. Its sales quadrupled, compared to an 89% growth for the Wii. It also saw its month on month market share grow, jumping from 12% in October to 21% in November.
NPD put the US games industry sales at $13.12 billion (£6.47 billion) for the year up to November, with November claiming $2.63 billion (£1.3 billion) of that.
