On November 20th SPOnG found itself appalled at Toys 'R' Us for taking advantage of Wii shortages and forcing punters to fork out £300 on poor bundles. This reaction does not come close to the sheer horror we feel having recently discovered the 'Ultimate Nintendo Wii Console Pack' from Mobile Fun will cost you £319.95.
"So what", you're wondering, "do I get for my £319.95? Surely there must be some great games?"
No, there are
no extra games involved. You get your basic Wii package (so, you do get
Wii Sports), a dual remote charging stand, the "Ultimate 6 in 1 Sports Pack" and some Wii boxing gloves.
SPOnG broke down the cost:
The charging station, on its own, will set you back £14.95 from Mobile Fun.
The boxing gloves aren't sold separately, but other retailers have them at around £10.
The 'Ultimate 6 in 1 Sports Pack contains extensions for the Wii Remote including a tennis racket, a baseball bat, a golf club, a steering wheel (with no driving game to use it with, bear in mind), the 'classic controller' (NOT the one used for Virtual Console games - a plastic shell that makes your Wii Remote look like a PlayStation controller!) and a wrist strap (which comes with the console anyway).
It isn't sold individually, but Mobile Fun does sell an '8 in 1 Ultimate Sports Kit' which includes an extra strap and a Wii Remote protector - and which costs £14.95.
So, if we factor in the price of the '8 in 1 Ultimate Sports Kit' we still only get a value 'add' of £39.90.
The recommended retail price of the Wii is £179. If all the items in the 'Ultimate Nintendo Wii Console Pack' were bought separately, the cost would come to £219.90. That's £100 less than the price Mobile Fun has slapped on it.
The best bit? The best bit is that this bundle has allegedly been reduced from £349.95. You can see it in all its glory
here. It's in stock...
SPOnG contacted Mobile Fun for comment, but was told that the marketing team has no direct line. We've e-mailed them, but as yet have had no response.
Suddenly,
Toys 'R' Us isn't looking so bad.
If you've come across similarly appalling deal on the Wii (or any other console, for that matter) let us know in the Forum.
