Nintendo Virtual Console Title Gets Upgrade
An intriguing little tidbit of Virtual Console news has slipped out of Japan regarding Pokémon Snap. It will be the first VC game to include features that weren't available in the original.

Pokémon Snap, if you missed it in its N64 incarnation, was a game that enabled you to grab in-game pictures of the little blighters and stick them in a gallery, if you were so inclined. Japanese site Dengeki reports that when the Virtual Console version hits Japan next month it will have the added option of posting the pictures you've snapped to the Wii Message Board; you can also include them in messages to mates in your friends' list.

You couldn't do that on the N64 - back then, in order to do anything with your pix, you had to go to a Blockbuster or suchlike... except in the UK, where there weren't any partnering stores that we can recall.

The Wii online features are not the most exciting in the world, we know, but it is the first time a Virtual Console title has had a feature set not in the original version - one that makes use of Wii specific functionality.

Before we pronounce this to be a sign of great things to come and get in a tizzy at the prospect of playing Super Mario Kart with motion-sensing functionality, however, SPOnG would like to point out that enabling the posting of photos online does not require anywhere near the level of techy tomfoolery that introducing a whole new control system would.

It does, however, show a willingness on Nintendo's part to put games onto Virtual Console that are more than just straight ports of the original.

Pokémon Snap will be on Virtual Console in Japan from December 4th at 1,000 Wii Points. There's no word on when we might see it in Europe. You can read all about it here.
